For patients who have lost their lower molars a long time ago, dental implant placement is a problem .
This is because with bone atrophy , there is a lack of vertical bone height above the inferior dental nerve.
With the advent of short implants ith rough surface and platform switching , implant placement in lower molar
areas with advanced bone loss is now an achievable goal. In fact , recent studies have shown that short implants
are performing as well as longer implants, provided appropriate surgical techniques are used and the implant
surfaces are rough.
