A : Gum Papillae Regeneration

The requirements of doing a dental implant in a patient with adjacent cosmetic veneers and crowns becomes more stringent. For aesthetic implant crowns, the following factors are important.

1. Adequate bone and gum tissues
2. Exact positioning of implant during
   surgery is important. A slight
   malposition of the dental implant
   during surgery will result in a poor
   aesthetic outcome.
3. Proper shape and contour of the
   implant crown is also important so that
   it looks like a natural teeth.
4. Exacting surgical and prosthetic
   technique will also help to
   regenerate gum papillae to minimise
   the black hole effect

With recent advances in digital technologies , it is now possible to custom design dental implant abutments with Zirconia. These may be white colour or shaded to match tooth colour.

Advantages of Zirconia over Titanium Abutments.

1. Better aesthetics especially in
   patients with thin gum , there is no
   metal line showing unlike titanium
   abutments.
2. Excellent biocompatibility as there is
   no chance of metal allergy.
3. Very strong and durable.

Disadvantages
- High Cost
- More laboratory time required.

The above picture shows a missing upper right central incisor being replaced with a dental implant and crown. The patient has high aesthetic demands. The dental implant in the missing upper right central incisor was restored with a Zirconia Abutment and a Full Porcelain Crown so as achieve good aesthetics.
